Today, I have a new playlist for you. I’m pretty sure that no matter where you’re living, you’ve been dealing with extreme temperatures the last couple of weeks (except maybe some of my friends in the Bay Area.)
Since I’ve moved to DC, it’s taken some time for me to adjust to summer weather, although I’m not convinced you can ever really adapt to this weather. Summer is no longer just hot. It’s now hot and humid and sometimes rainy. The second you leave your house your skin is slick and sticky. I know it’s a cliché, but dry heat really does feel different, and dry heat is all I’ve ever known.
In the past, outside-of-the-home entertainment has offered some relief—going for a walk through the mall, going to see a movie—with businesses blasting AC to near subzero temperatures. But this year, it seems like businesses can’t keep their spaces cool, either due to the sheer temperatures outside, or because it’s too expensive. Malls, restaurants, and movie theaters have offered me little comfort these days.
This playlist is meant to capture that feeling of being hot, sweaty, and sticky, with little hope of relief. This is for those days when it’s too hot to move but you still have a whole day before nightfall, and even then, nightfall air remains stagnant.
Bonus Playlist
As a bonus, here’s another playlist I made a few years ago around the idea of being sticky in the summertime.
If you have any hot, sticky, summer songs, send them my way! I’d love to hear your suggestions.
